Becket’s Park is at the heart of two navigations – the River Nene and the Grand Union Canal – and is perfectly placed to attract visitors to the town. The £2.15 million development has helped to transform this area of Northampton, creating a new leisure facility within a short walk of the town centre. It includes:
- A 78-berth marina with associated facilities including electricity, drinking water, security lighting, sanitary facilities and rubbish disposal points
- A waterways management office and marina manager
- Short term vehicular access for off-loading by boat users
The operational moorings are made up of six residential and a mixture of permanent and visitor moorings.
The facilities building houses the site officer as well as washrooms, a laundry and waste disposal facilities for boaters. The new building has a ‘very good’ rating for sustainability and environmental performance.
The Northampton Marina Project was undertaken by the Becket’s Park Partnership – the Environment Agency, Northampton Borough Council, the River Nene Regional Park, Northamptonshire County Council and West Northamptonshire Development Corporation.
The Marina is now managed by the Environment Agency.
