As work on the second screen for the Errol Flynn Filmhouse nears completion, its official opening date has been announced.
Built alongside the existing cinema, adjacent to Royal & Derngate, the new screen is due to open its doors to the public on Friday, 7 April.
The Errol Flynn Filmhouse, named after one of the Royal’s most famous alumni, opened its doors in June 2013, and has since built up a loyal following, welcoming over 170,000 people to see films and providing a first class cinema-going experience with its 88 luxurious leather reclining seats.
The new building is of a similar look and style, clad in cedar wood, with 83 seats of the same design as the original. Running parallel to the current Errol Flynn Filmhouse and with a new raised terrace, the new cinema provides an enhanced outdoor seating area for customers to enjoy carefully selected local refreshments.
Situated at the heart of Northampton’s Cultural Quarter, the Errol Flynn Filmhouse will continue to host the very best in world, independent, British and mainstream film, across the two screens, along with live screenings and other alternative content. The first films programmed for the new screen will be announced and go on sale shortly.
Martin Sutherland, chief executive of Royal & Derngate and the Errol Flynn Filmhouse, said: “We are very excited to see our second screen getting its finishing touches and are looking forward to it opening in April.
“We are grateful to our partners, Arts Council England, Carlsberg and Northampton Borough Council for their support for this next phase.”
Local film enthusiasts and businesses have been offered the opportunity to be part of the new development by sponsoring a seat in the new screening room, which can be named after a loved one or used to recognise a club or business. With the opening imminent, just one seat remains to be sponsored.Back to Latest News
